In Charge The Mission The
50 member Cadet Mountaineering Team (CMT) regularly rock climbs at
bolted cliffs along the Hudson River, granite boulders on Post, at
the Gunks outside of New Paltz, as well as in The Class of 79 Climbing
Wall. During the winter the CMT ice climbs on Post at the DPE Ice
Wall, Crows Nest, and in the Catskills. The CMT conducts 12-15 trips
per year to compete against gravity, the elements, and personal demons.
The trips seek to foster the skill sets necessary to be safe in the
vertical environment, read terrain, practice and hone judgment and
decision making in the domain of rock and ice climbing. In addition
the Team travels to indoor climbing events to compete against other
college climbing teams and individuals. The Team sponsors a number
of climbing events; The Annual ClimbFest in October where guest climbers
matched with cadet climbers, Brigade Opens, as well as a local indoor
climbing competition. Former cadet climbers are climbing around the
world in all disciplines. |
